Yugoslavian Order of Military Merit with Gold Swords
Yugoslavian Order of Military Merit with Gold Swords (Orden za Vojne Zasluge sa Zlatnim Mačevima), rare 6-torch version, silver, in fitted embossed case of issue Massive eight-pointed rayed silver star; the face with a silver escutcheon bearing a gilt-edged red enamel five-pointed star on crossed silver swords and six upright gilt torches with red enamel flames, all imposed on a circular green and gilt laurel wreath; the reverse plain with vertical pin for wear; diameter 65.89m (2.59 inches), weight 56.93 grams (2oz); in fitted embossed case of issue worn with slight scuff marks and loose bits. The Order was instituted on 29 December 1951 (with effect from 1 January 1952) by the Parliament of Federal People's Republic of Yugoslavia in three classes to be awarded to senior military and also civilians, both Yugoslav and foreign, for military merit. Earlier examples have five torches whilst later ones, such as this, have six and are rarer. In 1998 the Order was renamed the Order of Defence and Security. It is now redundant. A very good rare example
