WW2 Soviet Medal Group of 5 Awards
WW2 Soviet Medal Group of 5 Awards consisting of:
2 Medal for Bravery numbered 2446157 & 2857284 these are both type 2 variation 1 awards the serial numbers are very close together, the obverse reads “For Bravery” and it is awarded for personal bravery and courage
The medal for Combat Service numbered 545403 the obverse reads “For Combat Service” in raised letters this is a type 2 award with a crossed sabre and Mosin-Nagant rifle with fixed bayonet
The Capture of Budapest Medal the obverse reading “Capture of Budapest” and on the reverse the date13th February 1945
The Capture of Vienna Medal the obverse reading “The Capture of Vienna” and the reverse the date 13th April 1945
The group is mounted on the old style brass 5 sided mounting bar, I would hazard a guess at saying the two bravery awards were awarded for the capture of Budapest & Vienna respectively as both cities fell to the soviets within 2 months this grouping is worthy of further research because of the closeness of these serial numbers
